Spiritual heights, even spiritual progress, cannot be sustained without adverse consequences if spiritual pursuits- literature, practice- are put before resolving ego’s unfinished business and scripted behavior.
If, however, much genuine gain is made with cleansing/purifying ego’s basic flaws and dramas, then even before completed, remaining vices will begin to yield automatically from learned and enlisted advanced metaphysical principles and practices.
This effect is like magic, and old faults begin to fall away like dirt, sliding off an already soapy surface. Further illustration: many encrusted surfaces require soaking before they will yield up their grime. Likewise, the serious seeker of freedom will “soak” his/her own ego investments and encrusted drama in the soapy waters of strong discipline.
